Equipped with the F-15C and F-15D, the unit started out with nine aircraft. They should have a total of twenty-four by the time they are fully equipped. The F-15s of the 65th will simulate the SU-27/SU-30 series of advanced fighters to replicate adversaries that would be encountered on the modern battlefield of today. All of the Eagles in the squadron are painted in a realistic Russian camouflage pattern that mimics Sukhoi or MiG fighter aircraft. They are in the process of trading out Block 52 F-16Cs for the F-15E Strike Eagle. The F-15Es are being transferred in from the 3rd Wing 90th Fighter Squadron "Pair O' Dice" at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. The 90th FS has converted to the F-22A Raptor.The newly reformed 389th FS will serve as a school house (Replacement Training Unit) for USAF Strike Eagle crews and will also instruct foreign air crews such as South Korea and Singapore. These foreign air arms operate Boeing's new F-15K, a derivative of the USAF F-15E. This transformation comes under the BRAC 2005 decisions.
