Fast Movers of the 199th Fighter Squadron F-102 Delta Dagger KeokiDAHL.com The "Deuces" had a long reign in the Hawaii Air Guard. Deliveries started in December, 1960, with the last F-102 flight (HiANG) in January, 1977. The 199th FIS operated forty- eight different F-102A air frames during this period along with three TF-102A "TUBS" although only fifteen to eighteen aircraft were operational an on inventory at any one time. Delta Darts would flood the ranks of ANG and Fighter Interceptor Squadrons after service with active-duty units. This large number shows the high rate of air frame rotation among stateside ANG/FIS squadrons. Some of the HiANG Delta Daggers saw service in at least two Active Duty and one other ANG/FIS squadron before being assigned to the 199th FIS. Within the 199th, the F-102s were separated into "flights." These were "red" "yellow" and "blue" with each having between four to six aircraft. Four of the F-102s from the 199th were eventually sold to the Greek Air Force, while another ended up in service with the Turkish Air Force. The final fate remains unknown of the majority of these aircraft, although several are believed to have been scrapped or become aerial target drones in the PAVE DEUCE program. The F-102 had replaced the F-86L Sabres, and were replaced themselves for the F-4C Phantom IIs in 1976. Only one Delta Dagger is believed to have been lost in a crash (56-1371) during its sixteen years of operation. A Tactical Air Command F-102 (56-1393) with the early style "Buzz" number FC-393.
